McGregor Memorial Conference Center, Conference center at Wayne State University in Detroit, United States.
McGregor Memorial Conference Center is a building at Wayne State University in Detroit made up of two travertine pavilions linked by a central atrium with pyramidal skylights and marble walls. The interior spaces are designed for meetings and events and can be arranged in different ways depending on how many people need to gather.
The building opened in 1958 as the first of four structures designed by architect Minoru Yamasaki for Wayne State University. A major donation funded this construction project.
The center maintains eight conference rooms and exhibition spaces that support academic collaboration between university departments and Detroit community organizations.
The location has direct access to a reflecting pond and sculpture garden on the campus, giving visitors places to take breaks outdoors. Being on the university campus makes it easy to walk to other academic buildings.
The structure won the First Honor Award from the American Institute of Architects and received National Historic Landmark status in 2015. This recognition highlights its influence on modernist architecture in America.
