The Channel, Music venue in Fort Point Channel, Boston, US
The Channel was a music venue located in a spacious building at 25 Necco Street, featuring a raised wooden platform area and a sunken dance floor below it. The space accommodated up to 1,700 people and hosted different musical genres ranging from new wave to hardcore punk.
The Channel opened in 1980 and became a central music location in Boston before closing in 1991. The building was later demolished during the Big Dig construction project.
The venue welcomed numerous performers from The Ramones and Black Flag to James Brown, establishing itself as a fundamental part of Boston's music development.
The venue was located in the Fort Point area and easily accessible to visitors. Guests could choose between watching from the raised platform area or dancing on the sunken floor below.
The building stood near the historical site of the Boston Tea Party at Griffin's Wharf before being demolished. This location connected the venue to one of Boston's most significant historical moments.
