The Fillmore Detroit
The Fillmore Detroit, Historic theater in Downtown Detroit, United States
The Fillmore Detroit is a theatre inside the Francis Palms Building, rising twelve floors with terra cotta facades in the Beaux-Arts style. The spaces span orchestra, mezzanine, and balcony levels, with chandeliers and Renaissance Revival plasterwork.
The building opened in 1925 as the State Theatre, showing films and stage shows. It closed in the 1980s and was renovated in 2007 when it received the Fillmore name.
Visitors attending events can admire the restored interior that recalls grand early 20th‑century opera houses. The Detroit Music Awards ceremony takes place each year under the high ceilings, honoring local artists.
The stage sits at the lower level, while the mezzanine and balcony offer raised seating. During rock concerts the audience stands on the orchestra floor, while upper tiers often retain seats.
The grand lobby displays Italian Renaissance columns that were cleaned in 2007. The 1920s proscenium arch still frames the stage today.
