The Park Avenue Building stands 12 stories tall with beaux-arts architecture, featuring a central light court extending from the roof to the third floor.
Architect Albert Kahn designed this 101,565-square-foot office structure in 1922, initially naming it the General Necessities Building for the Absopure Coal Company.
The building housed numerous Detroit businesses, including Michigan Mutual Liability Company, Dictaphone Corporation, and the Grand Circus Park Station post office.
Current redevelopment plans propose converting the structure into 100 residential apartments with 5,000 square feet of retail space on ground level.
The building contains a light court design that allowed natural illumination throughout its office spaces, demonstrating early 20th-century architectural innovation.
