Trail View State Park, Linear state park in Nassau County and Suffolk County, United States
Trail View State Park is a long, narrow state park in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, New York, running between Bethpage State Park and Cold Spring Harbor State Park across Long Island. The route passes through stretches of woodland, open fields, and natural terrain that give a sense of what the interior of the island looks like away from its towns.
New York State bought the land in the 1960s to build a parkway that was never completed. The land sat unused for decades until it was officially designated as a state park in 2002.
Trail View State Park forms a section of the Nassau-Suffolk Greenbelt Trail, a network of paths that runs across Long Island and connects several parks and green areas. Hikers, riders, and cyclists use it regularly, treating it as a quiet passage between otherwise developed parts of the island.
The park is open year-round and no admission fee is required to enter. Since facilities along the trail are limited, it helps to bring water and anything else you need before you start walking.
The park lies along the Atlantic flyway, one of the main migration routes for birds traveling along the East Coast, making it a good spot to watch for species passing through in spring and autumn. The variation in terrain height along the corridor creates different habitats within a short distance of each other, which draws a wider range of birds than a flat landscape would.
