Twin Bridges Motor Hotel, Hotel in den Vereinigten Staaten
Twin Bridges Motor Hotel was a motor hotel in Arlington, Virginia that opened in 1957 and was the first property operated by the Marriott Corporation. It consisted of six two-story buildings containing 365 rooms, each with an outside entrance, two double beds, and a black and white television.
The hotel opened in 1957 marking the start of Marriott's hospitality business, which later expanded into a global corporation with thousands of properties worldwide. After decades of operation, it closed in 1988 and was demolished in 1990, ending an era of motor travel infrastructure near Washington.
The hotel served as a stopping point for travelers from across the country visiting Washington or passing through Arlington. It reflected the travel culture of the 1950s, when driving became routine and motor hotels provided convenient places to rest during road trips.
The hotel was situated near Reagan National Airport and the bridges leading to Washington, DC, making it easily accessible for travelers passing through the area. From this location, visitors had clear views toward the Capitol and Washington Monument in the distance.
The hotel was among the first designed specifically for airport travelers and offered convenient access to Reagan National Airport. The attached Hot Shoppes restaurant was known for providing takeaway meals for airline passengers, and in winter the hotel's swimming pool could be converted into an ice skating rink.
