Two Bush Island Light, Coastal lighthouse in Knox County, Maine, United States
The white brick tower of Two Bush Island Light stands 42 feet tall at the southwestern entrance to Penobscot Bay in Maine.
Congress authorized construction of the lighthouse in 1893 after local residents highlighted that over 5,000 vessels passed the island each year.
The first keeper, Aldiverd Norton, and his dog Smut became local heroes after rescuing two fishermen stranded during a storm in 1902.
The lighthouse remains active as a navigational aid and can only be viewed from boats or aircraft due to restricted island access.
Military forces demolished the keeper's house in 1970 during a training exercise after maintenance costs exceeded available budgets.
