Two Bush Island Light, Coastal lighthouse in Knox County, Maine, United States
Two Bush Island Light is a white brick tower standing 13 meters tall at the southwestern entrance to Penobscot Bay in Maine. The structure was built to guide ships safely through this busy waterway.
The tower was authorized in 1893 after residents reported that over 5,000 vessels passed the area each year. Once operational, it served as a key navigational aid for local maritime traffic for decades.
The first keeper, Aldiverd Norton, and his dog Smut became local heroes after rescuing two fishermen stranded during a storm in 1902.
The light remains active and continues to function as a navigational aid today. Since the island has restricted access, the tower can only be viewed from a boat or aircraft.
Keeper Aldiverd Norton and his dog Smut became local heroes in 1902 when they rescued two fishermen stranded during a storm. This rescue is still told by locals in the area today.
