United States Naval Academy Cemetery, Military cemetery at United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, United States.
The United States Naval Academy Cemetery is a military burial ground within the Naval Academy campus in Annapolis, Maryland. The site covers just under seven acres on Hospital Point, offering views over the Severn River and College Creek.
The Naval Academy founded the cemetery in 1868 on land known as Strawberry Hill, after the American Civil War. The grounds expanded over the years to accommodate officers and notable figures from the Navy.
The grounds hold the graves of Naval Academy officers, Medal of Honor recipients, and senior military leaders including Senator John McCain. Visitors can walk among the rows and read the names of more than six thousand individuals whose careers were tied to the academy.
Access follows Naval Academy regulations, with temporary path restrictions during construction work from 2024 through 2025. Visitors should expect quiet pathways and well-kept grass areas.
The Jeannette Monument, erected in 1890, stands on the grounds to remember the members of an Arctic expedition who lost their lives. The memorial shows details of the ill-fated voyage that took place in the late 19th century.
