Wallace State Park, State park in Clinton County, US
Wallace State Park is a 502-acre park in Clinton County centered around Lake Allaman, which provides both recreation and natural scenery. The grounds feature hiking trails through wooded sections, camping areas with full facilities, and designated picnic spots positioned throughout the property.
The park was established in 1932 by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and named after the family that owned the land for more than a century. Its creation coincided with the Great Depression, when such public projects served as employment for workers during economic hardship.
The park was developed by the Works Progress Administration during the Great Depression, and visitors can still see the craftsmanship from that era in its structures. The infrastructure built then continues to shape how people use the grounds today.
The park is located about seven miles south of Cameron and is easily accessible by vehicle. Camping facilities include hot showers and restrooms, while the lake is open for swimming and fishing year-round.
The grounds display craftsmanship from workers employed during the Great Depression, who left behind skilled stonework and woodwork throughout the property. These handcrafted details are often overlooked by visitors but reveal the care invested in the park's original construction.
