Walnut Park Plaza Hotel, Hotel in den Vereinigten Staaten
Walnut Park Plaza Hotel is a nine-story brick residential building in Philadelphia built in 1928, located in the Cobbs Creek area on Walnut Street. It features a distinctive form with a tower-like structure that creates an E-shaped profile above the second floor and underwent interior renovation in 1955 while maintaining its original exterior architecture.
The building was designed in 1928 by architects Stetler & Deysher and Frederick McDonald Massiah with Classical Revival details including tall columns to create a formal and stylish presence. In 1963 it began its conversion to residential housing for seniors, and in 2005 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
The hotel takes its name from Walnut Street, a main thoroughfare in the area where it stands. Today it functions primarily as residential housing for seniors, with its daily rhythms shaped by the people who call it home.
The building is located on Walnut Street in the Cobbs Creek area and is easy to reach on foot or by car as it sits on a main thoroughfare. Today it functions as a residential complex and is not open to the public as a hotel for overnight stays.
The property includes two smaller auxiliary buildings that were originally used for underground storage and today remain part of the historic site. These structures hint at the multifunctional purpose the establishment served when it first operated as a hotel.
