Warner Theatre, Art Deco movie theater in downtown Morgantown, United States.
The Warner Theatre is an Art Deco movie house in downtown Morgantown. The building contains three separate screening rooms that were created by dividing the original main floor and balcony space.
The theater opened in 1931 under the Warner Brothers Circuit management and operated as a single large cinema with over 1,200 seats. Major renovations in the 1970s transformed it into a modern multiplex with three smaller screens.
Actor Don Knotts worked at the Warner Theatre during his studies at West Virginia University and later returned for the national premiere of The Incredible Mr. Limpet.
The theater sits on High Street in the downtown area and is easily accessible on foot. Visitors should know that some passageways are narrow since the building was originally designed as one large cinema hall.
The original vertical marquee sign featured approximately 6,000 colored light bulbs that illuminated the High Street entrance. This elaborate lighting display made the cinema visible from a distance and created a striking visual landmark.
