Western Promenade, Urban park in Portland, Maine.
The Western Promenade encompasses 18.1 acres of public space on the western bluff of Portland's peninsula, featuring walking paths and green areas.
The city started acquiring land for the park in 1836, and the Olmsted Brothers developed its landscape design during the early twentieth century.
The surrounding neighborhood contains 420 buildings representing architectural styles from 1850 to 1920, including Second Empire, Italianate, and Queen Anne designs.
Visitors can access multiple entry points along the promenade, which connects to Valley Street through a trail near West Street.
From the park's elevated position, people can see the White Mountains of New Hampshire across the western horizon.
