Whitney Tavern Stand, Historic tavern in Cascade Township, Michigan.

Whitney Tavern Stand is a historic building featuring Greek Revival architecture with a side-gable roof, original bay windows, and rooms distributed across two stories. The structure preserves typical features of its period with characteristic details throughout its interior layout and exterior design.

The building was constructed in 1852 by Zerah Whitney and operated as a stagecoach stop on the Good Intent Line connecting Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, and Battle Creek. This role as a transportation hub was crucial to the area's growth and importance.

The second-floor ballroom served as a gathering place where local people came together for celebrations and social occasions. This role shows how central the building was to community life in the region.

The building is located in Cascade Township and can be viewed from the outside by visitors. Remember that this is a preserved historic site, so approach it with respect for its age and condition.

Soot marks and structural features throughout the building are physical evidence from its 19th-century stagecoach stop days. These visible traces tell the story of how it operated and served travelers passing through.
