William Fremd High School, District 211 High School in Palatine, Illinois
William Fremd High School is a public high school in Palatine, Illinois, serving students in grades 9 through 12. The campus includes classroom buildings, athletic fields, a gymnasium, and spaces dedicated to arts and music programs.
The school opened in 1961 under the name Palatine High School South, built to serve the growing number of families settling in the area after World War II. It was later renamed in honor of William Fremd and expanded over the following decades.
The school is named after William Fremd, a longtime local school board member. Throughout the buildings, the Viking mascot and the school colors of green and gold appear on walls, banners, and sports facilities.
Anyone wishing to visit the campus should contact the school administration in advance to arrange a tour. Arriving during school hours gives a better sense of how the buildings and outdoor spaces are used on a typical day.
In 2019, the school received the Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence award from the US Department of Education, one of the most recognized honors a public school can receive in the country. Only a small number of schools across the nation are selected for this award each year.
