Westerly Burial Ground

Westerly Burial Ground is a historic cemetery in West Roxbury occupying several acres at the intersection of Centre Street and LaGrange Street. The grounds contain graves from multiple eras marked by individual mound tombs that distinguish this site from other burial grounds in the area.

Founded in 1683, this burial ground became one of Boston's earliest cemetery sites and served the local community for over three centuries. The site underwent major expansions in the 1830s to meet the burial needs of a growing West Roxbury population.

Several graves at this site honor soldiers from the American Revolution and the Civil War, making it a place where national military history intersects with local community burial practices. These soldiers were among the earliest and later residents to be laid to rest here.
