Millennium Park, Urban park in downtown Chicago, US
Millennium Park is a 24.5-acre green space in downtown Chicago featuring distinctive artworks and cultivated gardens. It includes the mirrored stainless steel sculpture Cloud Gate, the Crown Fountain with digital displays, and the Lurie Garden planted with perennial species.
The park opened in 2004 on the site of a former rail yard, with a deck structure built over the active commuter tracks below. This transformation converted an industrial area into a public recreational space for the city.
The Jay Pritzker Pavilion hosts free outdoor concerts and film screenings throughout summer, drawing crowds who gather on the lawn for music and community events. The space functions as a gathering place where locals and visitors experience performances and cultural moments together.
The park opens daily from 6 AM to 11 PM and can be entered from multiple access points throughout the grounds. Nearby parking is available at the Grant Park North and South garages for visitors with vehicles.
The Crown Fountain displays digital faces of Chicago residents on two 50-foot glass towers that spray water from the projected mouths during summer. This interactive artwork rotates with different portraits of real people from the city, creating a playful surprise for visitors.
