Wilson Mountain Reservation, Nature reserve in Dedham, United States.
Wilson Mountain Reservation is a nature reserve in Dedham, Massachusetts, with forested hills, dense rhododendron thickets, and several marked hiking trails. The terrain rises from flat woodland at the base to a rocky summit that sits above the surrounding suburban landscape.
The land was protected by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation as part of the Metropolitan Park System, which began securing forests around Boston in the late 19th century. Without this protection, the woodland would likely have been developed like much of the surrounding town.
The reservation supports environmental education by providing opportunities to observe local wildlife and plants in their natural Massachusetts habitats.
The trails are open year-round but can be muddy or slippery after rain, so sturdy footwear is a good idea. Free parking is available near Common Street, and the paths start directly from there.
The summit, at around 295 feet (90 meters), is the highest point in Dedham and offers open views toward Boston on a clear day. It is unusual to find such a vantage point in the middle of a densely built suburb.
