William & Vashti College, Private college in Aledo, Illinois, United States.
William & Vashti College was a private institution in Aledo situated on 16 acres with a main academic building, student dormitory, gymnasium, heating plant, and presidential residence. The compact campus allowed classes and residential life to coexist in one location.
The college was founded in 1908 through the will of William Drury, who designated it to bear his name and that of his wife Vashti Lewis. This bequest created an educational opportunity for the region where it operated.
The institution emphasized both classical and scientific education, offering comprehensive programs to prepare students for various professional careers.
Classes operated on a compact campus where students found housing and academic facilities all in one place. The proximity of all structures made daily campus life straightforward for regional students.
After its closure, the Roosevelt Military Academy occupied the buildings beginning in 1924 for its training operations. This military phase ended in 1973, after which the main building was replaced with residential apartments.
