Braves Field, Baseball stadium at Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, United States
Braves Field was a baseball stadium in Boston, Massachusetts, active between 1915 and 1952. The facility consisted of a single covered grandstand behind home plate and two open pavilion stands along the foul lines.
The stadium opened in August 1915 with a game between the Boston Braves and the St. Louis Cardinals. It served the team until their move to Milwaukee in 1953.
The venue took its name from the city's baseball team and served as home ground for their games. Spectators sat on wooden benches in the side sections and followed matches under open sky.
The stadium stood on Commonwealth Avenue in the western part of the city. Visitors reached the grounds by streetcar and could follow games from covered seats or open sections.
The vast dimensions of the center field at approximately 550 feet (168 meters) led to numerous inside-the-park home runs during playing seasons. The field was later reduced in size to create more traditional home run distances.
