Old Middletown High School, high school in Connecticut, United States
Old Middletown High School is a large school building from the late 19th century located at the corner of Court and Pearl Streets in Connecticut. Built in Romanesque Revival style, it features rounded arches, sturdy brick walls, and a textured exterior combining brick, brownstone, and terra cotta with a distinctive corner turret.
The building was constructed between 1894 and 1896 and served as Middletown's main high school for nearly 80 years. Originally designed by Hartford architect firm Curtis & Johnson, it was expanded in 1912 and 1931 to accommodate growing student numbers.
The former school stands at the corner of Court and Pearl Streets and has shaped Middletown's character for more than a century. It was long a gathering place for the community and remains a familiar landmark that residents pass by regularly.
The building is easy to locate at the corner of Court and Pearl Streets near 19th century homes in the neighborhood. It now functions as residential apartments and is protected as a National Register of Historic Places site.
The building was converted into apartments in 1979 and now houses 65 residential units for seniors. This careful renovation preserved original features such as the rounded windows and stonework while adding modern amenities inside.
