Voorhies Castle, National Register of Historic Places building in Voorhies, Illinois, US.

Voorhies Castle is a Victorian residence featuring round turrets topped with conical roofs and adorned with scalloped wooden shingles across its facade. A portico supported by Doric columns sits between the turrets and anchors the composition of this Queen Anne style home.

Swedish immigrant Nels Larson commissioned architect William H. Schroeder to build this palatial residence between 1900 and 1904. The project reflected the economic success of Scandinavian settlers who had established themselves in Illinois agriculture and industry.

The house blends Swedish manor design with Queen Anne style, showing how immigrant builders brought their cultural traditions to American architecture. This combination reflects the owner's heritage and his desire to create something that honored both his origins and his adopted home.

The house sits about 4 miles south of Bement in Piatt County and offers clear views of the surrounding Illinois countryside from its location. As a historic structure, it can be seen from outside, though visitors should confirm access details before planning a visit.

A clock tower barn was built beside the house in 1905 and housed Seth Thomas clockworks that operated a brass bell. The bell could be heard across the surrounding countryside, serving as a timekeeping signal for the rural community.
