The Municipal Auditorium features 7,316 permanent seats and combines Streamline Moderne with Art Deco architectural elements in its structural design.

The building opened in 1935 as part of the Works Progress Administration program, creating employment opportunities during the Great Depression period.

The venue includes a Music Hall that presents Broadway shows, symphonies, and houses the Robert-Morton Theatre Pipe Organ from the Midland Theatre.

The Little Theatre section within the auditorium contains an octagonal ballroom that accommodates 225 guests for banquet-style events and gatherings.

Municipal Auditorium holds the record for hosting nine NCAA Final Four basketball tournaments between 1940 and 1964, ranking first among all venues.
