Jones Falls, Stream corridor in Baltimore County and Baltimore, United States
Jones Falls is a stream in Baltimore County and Baltimore that flows approximately 18 miles from Garrison down to the Inner Harbor. It winds through natural valleys and passes through various neighborhoods, with some sections lined by trees and open water.
The stream powered numerous mills starting in the 1700s, which helped transform Baltimore into an industrial city focused on grain milling and textile production. This mill activity drew workers to the area and sparked neighborhoods to grow around these work centers.
The neighborhoods along the stream developed as mill workers settled near their factories, creating communities with diverse backgrounds and traditions that shaped local identity over generations.
The Jones Falls Trail offers about 10 miles of walking and biking paths that connect with other local routes. Most sections are easy to access and pass through both open areas and tree-covered zones.
Round Falls is a natural waterfall about 10 feet high where the stream drops sharply before continuing toward the harbor. This geological feature is one of the few visible elevation changes along the water's path through the city.
