Chittenango Falls State Park, Natural state park in Madison County, New York.

Chittenango Falls State Park is a nature reserve in New York centered on a 51-meter waterfall cascading over limestone rock. The 193-acre property includes forested areas and a gorge trail that descends to a wooden footbridge positioned at the base of the falls.

The New York State Office of Parks acquired the land in 1922 following advocacy by Helen Fairchild and the Chittenango Falls Park Association. This protection effort prevented the site from being developed and preserved its natural features for public use.

The Oneida and Onondaga nations considered this location a natural boundary in their territories. The waterfall held practical and spiritual meaning as a landmark that defined land use and travel routes through the region.

The gorge trail is well-marked and takes visitors steadily downward to reach the falls on foot. The path involves uneven terrain and exposed rock surfaces, so sturdy shoes are helpful on a visit.

The site is home to the Chittenango ovate amber snail, an endangered species found nowhere else in the world. This small snail depends on the specific conditions of the gorge and surrounding forest to survive.
