Hither Hills State Park

Hither Hills State Park extends across 1,755 acres, featuring coastal forests, sandy beaches, and recreational areas along the Atlantic Ocean shoreline.

New York State established this public recreation area in the 1960s to protect the natural environment while offering outdoor activities to residents.

The park's interpretive programs educate visitors about local ecology, marine life, and environmental conservation through guided activities and seasonal events.

Visitors can access 189 oceanfront camping sites from April through November, with separate fees applying to New York State residents and non-residents.

The eastern section contains walking dunes at Napeague Harbor, where sand formations shift and move across the landscape through natural processes.
