The Main Street Historic District extends across 21 acres, featuring 36 buildings with architectural styles including Chicago, Classical Revival, and Commercial designs.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991, this district preserves structures from different periods, including the McDowell County Courthouse built in 1928.
The district contains First Baptist Church from 1914, the Eagle Hotel that survived the 1894 fire, and Hotel Marianna constructed in 1910.
The district boundaries follow US 70 and Garden, State and Logan Streets, making navigation through the historical area straightforward for visitors.
The Marion Community Building from 1937 and a main street bank from 1903 represent the district's early 20th-century commercial development.
