Catawba Falls, Multi-cascade waterfall in McDowell County, United States.

Catawba Falls is a multi-tiered waterfall system in the mountains of North Carolina. The water drops over several levels and flows through densely forested terrain.

The area was used for hydroelectric power generation in the early 1900s, leaving behind deteriorated structures from that industrial period. Federal forest services took over management of the site in the early 2000s.

The falls serve as the headwaters of the Catawba River, receiving up to 10,000 weekly visitors during peak seasons who come to experience North Carolina's natural heritage.

The path to the waterfall starts on a wide hiking trail with stairs and observation points built throughout. The route is manageable for most visitors, though the climb requires some physical effort.

Viewing platforms have been built at multiple spots where you can watch the water plunging directly below you. These platforms offer surprising perspectives on the sheer power and scale of the falling water.
