Fenn Tower, Historic skyscraper in Cleveland, Ohio.
Fenn Tower is a 22-story skyscraper in Cleveland designed by George B. Post and Sons, rising approximately 266 feet with distinctive architectural features. The building contains five elevators and now serves as student housing for Cleveland State University following major renovations.
The building opened in 1930 at the height of the Great Depression, initially built as a venue for the National Town and Country Club. It became part of Fenn College's property in 1937 and eventually transferred to Cleveland State University when the colleges merged.
The tower stands as a symbol of how education shaped Cleveland's urban landscape. Its current use as student housing shows how a historic building remains woven into the daily lives of those who study and live within it.
The building now functions as student housing and is not open to the public for interior visits, but its impressive exterior architecture is visible from the street. Walking around the exterior allows you to appreciate the design details and see how it fits within Cleveland's downtown historic buildings.
The building was one of only three college skyscrapers in the entire United States when it was built, reflecting innovative thinking about campus architecture in the 1930s. This pioneering status makes it a rare example of how educational institutions were experimenting with tall buildings in that era.
