Linden Hall at Saint James Park
Linden Hall at Saint James Park, Historic mansion in Lower Tyrone Township, US.
Linden Hall is a mansion built in Tudor Revival style from stone and stucco, with 31 rooms arranged in a crescent shape on a hilltop. The estate spreads across 9 acres and includes a garage, chauffeur's house, gardens, and a pool pavilion.
Sarah B. Cochran commissioned the mansion between 1909 and 1911, with architect Joseph F. Kuntz designing the Tudor Revival structure. The building became recognized as a historic site and represents the architectural style of that era in the region.
The building transitioned from a family home to a religious novitiate in 1944, later becoming a country club before serving as a union retreat center. Each phase left its mark on how visitors experience and use the spaces within.
The property sits atop a hill and offers extended views across the surrounding countryside from multiple vantage points. Walking around the grounds and exploring the various buildings is best done on foot, so comfortable shoes are recommended given the elevated terrain.
The mansion was built by industrialist Sarah B. Cochran, one of few women who invested in large estates around 1910. Her role as patron of such a significant residence was unusual for her time.
