Miah Maull Shoal Light, Offshore lighthouse in Delaware Bay, United States
Miah Maull Shoal Light is a cast iron lighthouse standing in Delaware Bay with a conical shape and a circular caisson base. The structure rises about 46 feet (14 meters) and houses a lantern room that contains navigation equipment.
The lighthouse began operation in 1913 following an extended construction period to mark treacherous shoals in the shipping channel. Its development addressed critical maritime hazards in Delaware Bay.
The lighthouse takes its name from Nehemiah Maull, a Delaware River pilot. His death in 1780 after a shipwreck on these waters led to the area becoming known by his name.
The automated lighthouse operates remotely and does not offer interior tours for visitors. Your best views come from boat tours or shoreline vantage points around Delaware Bay.
The structure sold for $90,000 in 2015 after the General Services Administration offered it with a minimum bid of $10,000. This sale price far exceeded expectations for this offshore landmark.
