Perry Hannah House

Perry Hannah House is a four-story Queen Anne style residence in Traverse City with 40 rooms and ten fireplaces throughout. The building features multiple wood types including cherry, birch, and Brazilian mahogany, with ornamental tilework and handcrafted details in various rooms.

Built between 1891 and 1893, the house was constructed for Perry Hannah, a lumber businessman who founded Hannah Lay and Company in 1851. The residence reflects the boom in the timber industry that brought wealth and growth to the region during that period.

The house displays Queen Anne style with handcrafted tiles and ornate details that reflect the wealth and craftsmanship valued in its era. Visitors can see how architectural choices conveyed status and refined taste throughout the rooms.

The house is located at 305 6th Street and now serves as a funeral home while maintaining its original architectural features. Visitors can see the exterior and some interior spaces, though the building's current use may limit access to certain areas.

Construction of the house required many carpenters working by hand without electricity, each detail carved and fitted manually. This reflects how labor-intensive building was in the 1890s, with artisans spending months on ornamental work that machines could not handle.
