The City Opera House occupies a three-story red brick structure measuring 110 feet on each side, with commercial spaces on the ground floor and performance areas above.
Built in 1891, this venue marked a milestone as the first building in Traverse City to incorporate electric lights and received National Historic Place status in 1972.
The performance space features a decorated dome with angelic putti, trompe-l'œil clouds, and hosts concerts, theater productions, and community gatherings throughout the year.
Located at 106-112 Front Street, the venue currently accommodates 710 seats and includes modern theater rigging plus facilities for catered events.
The opera house underwent a 30-year restoration project costing 8.5 million dollars, transforming it from a closed movie house into a contemporary cultural center.
