Nathan Wilbur constructed the mill using oak beams from shipwrecks, incorporating wooden pins and scrap metal to hold the framework together.

The mill demonstrates early American agricultural methods, as it continues to grind corn into meal using traditional eighteenth-century techniques.

Visitors can observe the operational mechanisms during seasonal demonstrations when weather conditions allow the vanes to turn properly.

This structure remains the sole survivor among four windmills that previously operated along the western hills of Nantucket Island.
