Philadelphia Korean War Memorial, War memorial in Society Hill, Philadelphia, United States
The Philadelphia Korean War Memorial consists of four black granite columns, each about 16 feet (5 m) tall, that display the names of 610 service members from five Pennsylvania counties who died in the Korean War. The site is further enhanced by additional granite monoliths that provide detailed information about major battles and military units involved in the conflict.
The memorial was dedicated in 2002 to honor those who died during the 1950-1953 conflict. A bronze sculpture titled The Final Farewell was added in 2007 to deepen the site's significance.
The memorial hosts ceremonial gatherings on patriotic holidays where visitors and veterans come together to honor fallen service members and share their memories. It serves as a place where families can recognize the sacrifice of those who served during the conflict.
The site is accessible and located in an open area that allows visitors to walk around and spend time in reflection. Plan to give yourself ample time to read the inscriptions and take in the full scope of the memorial.
The granite monoliths on the grounds feature carved maps and timelines showing how the conflict progressed and across which regions it spread. This turns the site into a kind of outdoor educational resource about the war's geography and timeline.
