Cassey House, Historic residence in Society Hill, Philadelphia, US
The Cassey House at 243 Delancey Street stands as a four-story brick building at the corner of South Philip Street in Philadelphia.
Joseph Cassey, who moved from the French West Indies to Philadelphia before 1808, purchased this property and established it as a family residence in 1845.
The residence belonged to a prominent African-American family who supported abolition movements and established educational programs for the Black community in Philadelphia.
Located near Society Hill, the property originally contained a main house facing the street and three additional apartments in the rear courtyard.
Matilda Inez Cassey, a classical pianist and granddaughter of Joseph, performed concerts throughout Philadelphia while residing in this house until 1916.
