The library began in 1878 as a reading room by the Women's Christian Temperance Union before evolving into a free public library in 1899.
The genealogy department maintains extensive records including birth certificates, marriage documents, and local newspapers for historical research purposes.
The library provides notary services, computer access, study spaces, and meeting rooms while offering digital resources accessible from home.
Local businessman Jesse Healy Morley funded the construction of the original building and named it after his parents.
