Guam Cable Station

Guam Cable Station is a telecommunications facility in ruins located in Hågat, comprising a main building, residential quarters, and a water supply system. The structures still show the infrastructure that was built to support continuous operation in this remote location.

This facility was constructed in 1903 by the Commercial Pacific Cable Company and established the first modern telecommunications link between Guam and the outside world. It was part of a larger project to connect Asia and America through submarine telegraph cables.

This site served as a vital communications hub that connected Guam with distant regions through submarine cables. It enabled the rapid transmission of messages and weather information across vast ocean distances.

The ruins are located within Naval Base Guam grounds and require proper authorization for visitor access. Wear sturdy footwear when exploring the site, and check locally for current access conditions before your visit.

This station was critical to completing a worldwide communications network in 1903. It was one of the first places where messages from Europe or America could reach Asia through ocean cables.
