Annesdale, Italian Villa mansion in Memphis, United States
Annesdale is an Italianate mansion in Memphis featuring 13 rooms across multiple levels, including five bedrooms and four bathrooms throughout its structure. The interior displays carved walnut woodwork, ornate ceiling paintings, and stained glass windows in many of its spaces.
The house was built in 1855 for Dr. Samuel Mansfield and later became a wedding gift from Robert C. Brinkley to his daughter Annie Overton. During the American Civil War, the property served as a field hospital for wounded soldiers.
The mansion exhibits fine architectural elements with 14-foot ceilings, stained glass windows, painted ceilings, ornate plasterwork, and intricate needlework panels throughout its rooms.
The mansion is located on Lamar Avenue and now functions as an event venue for weddings and private celebrations. Visitors should contact the property in advance, as the house is primarily available for scheduled events rather than casual visits.
During archaeological work in 2016, workers discovered a human bone fragment in a sealed fireplace, possibly from the period when the building served as a hospital. This finding offers clues about the medical use of the house during a turbulent historical time.
