Ashlar Hall, Victorian mansion in Memphis, United States
Ashlar Hall is a three-story mansion in Memphis featuring stone masonry construction with eight bedrooms, six bars, and five bathrooms. The residence contains approximately 11,000 square feet of interior space designed with Norman and Gothic architectural influences.
Robert Brinkley Snowden, owner of the Memphis Peabody Hotel, built this residence in 1896 as his personal home. The property served as a family residence through the early 1900s before its purpose shifted decades later.
The residence served as a family home before becoming a restaurant and later a nightclub venue in the 1990s. These shifts in purpose reflect how the property adapted to serve the community in different eras.
The mansion is a large multi-story building that requires adequate time to explore thoroughly during a visit. Plan your visit to account for the substantial interior space and the number of rooms to tour.
The residence's name derives from the squared cut stones called ashlars that form its exterior walls. This particular building technique was a distinctive choice for a private residence of its era.
