Isham-Terry House, Historical house museum in Hartford, United States.
The Isham-Terry House is a two-story brick building with a three-story tower, deep roof overhangs, and decorative Italianate brackets located on High Street. Today it operates as a museum managed by Connecticut Landmarks, offering the public a look at how wealthy families lived.
The house was built in 1854 and originally belonged to Ebenezer Roberts before Dr. Oliver Isham purchased it in 1896. Dr. Isham made it both his home and the location of his medical practice.
The interior reveals original lincrusta wall coverings and handcrafted woodwork that reflect how wealthy residents lived during the 1800s. These elements show the tastes and habits of Hartford's prosperous families from that era.
Visitors should check hours in advance and book guided tours before arriving at the museum. Its location on High Street in downtown Hartford makes it easy to reach on foot or by car.
This building is one of the few remaining examples of 19th-century residential architecture on High Street, as most other historic neighbors were torn down. This rarity makes it an important record of what the street once looked like.
