Keney Tower, Clock tower in Downtown North Historic District, Hartford, United States.
Keney Tower is a clock tower in downtown Hartford that rises 130 feet (40 m) from a square base made of red sandstone. Faces are positioned on all four sides, and the bell chimes every 15 minutes.
The tower was commissioned in 1898 as a memorial and stands as Hartford's only independent tower structure. It represents the architectural importance of that era to the city.
The tower displays late 19th-century American design principles through its pointed arches and buttresses, which define the character of the square. Visitors can observe these architectural details in their original form today.
The tower sits at the corner of Main and Ely Street where it is easy to find. Visitors can walk around the structure and view the architecture from different angles.
The tower was built using stone from Longmeadow, Massachusetts. These materials came under city ownership in 1924 and add to the structure's character.
