Hartford 21, Postmodern skyscraper in Downtown Hartford, Connecticut, US.
Hartford 21 is a 36-story skyscraper in downtown Hartford standing approximately 440 feet (134 meters) tall. The tower combines residential apartments, ground-level shops, and underground parking in a unified glass and steel structure.
Construction began in 2004 and finished in 2006, replacing an older shopping center that had become underused. The completion marked an important moment for downtown revival, as new housing drew people back to the core.
The building brought residential living back to the downtown core, reshaping how people use the commercial district. It reflects a shift toward mixed-use spaces where shopping, working, and living happen in close proximity.
The tower is easy to access from street level with multiple entrances throughout the complex. Parking is available underground, and the direct connection to the nearby sports venue makes it convenient for event attendance.
When completed in 2006, this was Hartford's newest tall building and remained the only major high-rise investment of that era. Its glass facade was considered a bold design choice for a city taking cautious steps toward modernization.
