The eight-story American Republic Insurance Company Headquarters Building reaches a height of 107 feet with solid walls on east and west sides.
Construction began in late 1963 under architect Gordon Bunshaft from Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, following Watson Powell Jr's commission for a corporate headquarters.
The structure received recognition from the American Institute of Architects in 1967 and contains an 11-foot bronze sculpture by Arnaldo Pomodoro.
The building maintains its original function as corporate headquarters while incorporating modern mechanical systems through a 2015 renovation project.
The outer walls of the structure taper as the building rises, responding to decreased load requirements at higher levels.
