Kinepolis Brussels, Multiplex cinema in Heysel, Belgium
Kinepolis Brussels is a multiplex cinema in the Heysel district, in the north of Brussels, with 25 screens of different sizes. One of the screens is equipped with an IMAX format and laser projection, making it one of the largest cinema screens in Europe.
Kinepolis Brussels opened in November 1988 and was at the time the first cinema complex of this scale anywhere in the world. The IMAX theater was later upgraded with laser projection in 2016, one of the first installations of this type in Europe.
Kinepolis Brussels screens films in English, French, Dutch, and other languages, which reflects the multilingual reality of daily life in Brussels. Many visitors choose a film partly based on which language version is showing.
The cinema sits in the north of Brussels near the Atomium and is easy to reach by public transit or by car, as a large parking area is available on site. Booking in advance online is a good idea for popular releases or IMAX screenings, especially on weekends.
When Kinepolis opened in 1988, the concept of a cinema complex this large was new enough that professionals from across Europe came to study how it was built and run. The group later expanded into several other European countries, using Brussels as the model for its other locations.
