Lapa Doce

Lapa Doce is a limestone cave near Iraquara that stretches beneath the surface with multiple chambers containing stalactites and stalagmites. The passages vary in width and height, with some sections wide enough for groups to walk side by side while others require more careful movement.

The cave formed over millions of years as water slowly carved through limestone, creating the passages and chambers seen today. This natural sculpting process shaped the underground landscape into its current form.

The name refers to the bright limestone that glows in the passages when light touches it. Local people view the cave as an important part of how their region was shaped and developed over time.

Wear sturdy shoes with good grip since limestone can be slippery and some areas demand careful footing. Bring a light source or check if one is provided, as proper lighting helps you see the formations clearly and navigate the passages safely.
