Área de Proteção Ambiental Marimbus / Iraquara

The Marimbus Iraquara Environmental Protection Area spans 125,400 hectares across five municipalities in Bahia, featuring caves, waterfalls, and natural springs.

The Environmental Protection Area received official status through State Decree 2,216 in June 1993 to protect ecosystems east and north of Chapada Diamantina National Park.

Local communities within the protected area maintain traditional practices while engaging in sustainable agriculture and tourism activities that support environmental preservation.

Visitors can access guided tours to explore caves with rock paintings, navigate through wetlands, and hike trails across the protected territory.

The area contains 126 documented caves forming a significant speleological park, with natural formations that reveal geological processes spanning millions of years.
