Bývalý jezuitský konvikt

The former Jesuit college is a three-story Baroque building along Univerzitni Street, defined by 22 window bays, pilasters, and decorated stone window frames. Today Palacký University uses it as an arts center, housing lecture halls, studios, theater spaces, and exhibition areas throughout the building.

The building was founded as an educational center under Jesuit leadership, reflecting their influence in the city. It survived through the centuries and was eventually transferred to the university, continuing its role in education to the present day.

The chapel inside contains ceiling paintings that reflect the artistic traditions of its time and reveal the spiritual role this place held in the community. These artworks show what mattered most to those who studied and lived here.

The building is open to the public today and hosts regular events and rotating exhibitions throughout the year. It is most easily reached by keeping in mind its location on Univerzitni Street in the city center and allowing time to explore its various spaces.

The ground floor still preserves sections of an original Baroque hot-air heating system, showing how advanced the technology was for that era. Upper floors also retain historical dry toilets that reveal how residents managed daily life in those times.
