Roscheider Hof Open Air Museum, Open-air museum in Konz, Germany
Roscheider Hof Open Air Museum is an open-air museum in Konz, west of Trier, displaying original and reconstructed rural buildings from the Moselle-Saar region. The buildings come from different periods and are furnished with original furniture and household objects, giving visitors a real sense of the region's everyday life.
The site traces back to a farm recorded in 1330, which was managed by a monastery for centuries before passing into other hands during the upheaval at the end of the 18th century. In the 20th century, the grounds were gradually turned into a museum that gathers rural buildings and everyday objects from across the region.
The museum reflects the rural way of life of the Moselle and Saar region through reconstructed village scenes showing crafts, farming, and household routines. Visitors can step inside original workshops and living quarters to get a direct sense of what everyday life looked like a few generations ago.
The museum sits on the western edge of Konz, where the Moselle and Saar rivers meet, and is easy to reach from Trier. Bring sturdy footwear, as the paths across the grounds are unpaved, and allow plenty of time to walk through the full site.
The museum holds one of the largest collections of historical trade tools in the region, covering crafts and professions that have almost entirely disappeared. Many of the tools still show signs of real use, making it possible to understand how a specific job was actually done rather than just what the tools looked like.
