Stuiben, Mountain summit in Allgäu Alps, Bavaria, Germany
Stuiben is a mountain summit in the Allgäu Alps in Bavaria, Germany, sitting at around 1,750 meters with rocky terrain near the top. The slopes differ depending on which side you approach: steep and rocky to the east, more open with meadows on other sides.
Stuiben formed as part of the Northern Limestone Alps through tectonic shifts that took place over many millions of years. Erosion from water, frost, and glacial ice then shaped the ridge into the form it has today.
The mountain sits close to Oberstdorf and draws walkers who come for the open ridgelines and wide views over the Allgäu valleys. The trails are well marked and used by both families on short outings and experienced hikers on longer rounds.
The summit can be reached from the north via a cog railway stop or from the south starting from a parking area. Sturdy footwear is a good idea regardless of the route, as the terrain near the top is rocky and mountain weather can change quickly.
Steel ropes fixed along the east ridge help walkers cross the rockiest sections without needing climbing experience. This makes the summit reachable for people who want a taste of scrambling without committing to a full via ferrata.
