Aprath Mill

Aprath Mill is a three-story stone structure with a gable roof and dormers, standing next to a mill pond. The Brucher Bach stream feeds the pond, which provided the water power needed to turn the mill.

Duke Wilhelm III of Berg established this as the official mill for the region in the early 16th century. After a fire in the 19th century, the building was rebuilt with modern changes to its design.

The mill shows craft techniques and rural economic methods that shaped communities over generations in this region. Visitors can see how traditional grain processing happened here and what role this work held in village life.

The building sits within the Aprather Mühlenteich nature reserve, which spans across several hectares and includes the Düssel river. The pond and surrounding landscape are easy to access and offer paths for exploration.

After its reconstruction, the mill gained a modern extension on its upper section, showing how historic buildings adapt to contemporary design. This blend of old masonry and new elements makes it an interesting example of modern heritage conservation.
